Over 20 years in primary classrooms
A career spanning reception to Year 6, working with children, parents, teachers and senior leaders through every stage of primary education.
Parent Insight exists because too many parents are left holding a concern that no one has quite explained. The Parent Concern Snapshot gives your worry a shape, your child a fair reading, and your next steps a clear beginning.
Over more than twenty years in primary classrooms, I kept meeting the same kind of parent: thoughtful, observant, and quietly worried. They had been told to wait. They had been reassured. They had been given a report full of numbers that no one had explained. They were not looking for a label — they were looking for someone to take what they were seeing seriously.
I created Parent Insight to be that place. A private, respectful way for a parent to say, "I think something is not quite right," and receive a written response that is calm, clear, and grounded in real educational experience.
The Snapshot is not a diagnosis, a screening, or a substitute for specialist assessment. It is a careful reading of your concerns, your child's strengths, and the patterns that might explain what you have been noticing — with practical next steps you can use straight away.
Philippa is an experienced primary teacher with over twenty years of classroom practice. Her work has taken her across a wide range of school settings — including mixed-age classes and some of the most challenging environments in the system. That breadth matters: it means she understands how the same child can look quite different depending on the context, and why a parent’s observations deserve to be taken seriously.
A career spanning reception to Year 6, working with children, parents, teachers and senior leaders through every stage of primary education.
From single-form entry to mixed-age classes, and from calm, nurturing environments to classrooms with significant challenge and complexity.
Practical experience helping children who think, learn and communicate differently, and working with families to understand what might help at school and at home.
National assessment marking experience that gives her a deep understanding of expected standards, progression and the fine detail in children’s written work.
Mentored trainee teachers through university-led programmes, shaping the next generation of educators and keeping her own practice closely rooted in current teaching standards.
Ran a thriving private tutoring practice that taught her how much parents value clear, honest, practical guidance they can actually use.
Parent Insight offers educational guidance and understanding, not a diagnosis, screening or clinical assessment. Philippa will always be honest about what can be seen from your information and what needs a specialist or statutory route instead.
Children are not puzzles to be solved quickly. They are people learning how to learn, in a world that does not always fit them. My approach is to understand first, describe second, and recommend only when the picture is clear enough to be useful.
What a child does, says, avoids, and repeats tells us more than a single score. I read your examples carefully and weigh them against years of classroom experience.
A child who seems fine at school may unravel at home, and vice versa. I look at both pictures, and the gap between them, before forming any view.
Parents do not need a list of twenty things to do. They need two or three sensible steps, chosen for this child, in this season, with this family in mind.
You know the small changes, the bedtime comments, the patterns school cannot see. I treat what you notice as the starting point, not an afterthought.
A worry about reading is never just about reading. I consider confidence, friendships, home life, sleep, language, and what has happened at school so far.
Every child has something going well. Naming it honestly is not just kind — it is the foundation any useful next step is built on.
Reports should help you think, not impress you with terminology. If a word is necessary, I explain it. If it is not, I leave it out.
I will not invent certainty to make you feel better, and I will not catastrophise to make you act faster. I say plainly what I think, and how sure I am.
Your child's information is stored securely, seen only by me, and used for one purpose: to write the report you have asked for.
Every Parent Concern Snapshot is read, considered, and written by me. There is no algorithm deciding what to say, no assistant finishing the report, and no template into which your child is squeezed.
I have spent more than two decades as a primary teacher, working across reception to Year 6, in classrooms of every kind. I have marked national assessments, guided pupils with a wide range of learning differences, and sat with parents in the very meetings where difficult news is first shared. That experience is what shapes the Snapshot.
I also know what I am not. I am not a medical professional, an educational psychologist, or a solicitor. If your child needs specialist assessment or statutory support, I will say so clearly and point you toward the right path.
If you have a quiet feeling that something is not quite right, that is enough to begin. The Parent Concern Snapshot is a calm, structured way to make sense of it — written for you, by someone who has spent twenty years listening to children and the parents who know them best.
